Preparing for Your First Body Sugaring Session: What to Expect

Stepping into the world of body sugaring for the first time? This is an amazing natural alternative to traditional hair removal methods, and we’re so excited for you to give it a try!

We know that stepping into any new beauty treatment can come with a few questions. Let’s explore what typically happens during a body sugaring session, so you can arrive feeling confident and excited.

Before You Arrive: A Little Prep Work

First things first, let’s talk about hair length. For best results, your hair should be about the length of a grain of rice. This might mean letting it grow out a bit if you’re used to shaving or other methods that remove hair at the surface.

Now, let’s talk about exfoliation. Gently exfoliating your skin a day or two before your appointment can help prevent ingrown hairs. Just use a gentle scrub or loofah to slough away any dead skin cells.

On the day of your appointment, avoid applying any lotions, oils, or deodorants to the area being sugared. This will help the sugar paste adhere properly to the hair.

During Your Session: Relax and Breathe

When you arrive for your appointment, your therapist will make you feel comfortable and answer any questions you might have. They’ll then cleanse the area to be sugared and apply a light dusting of powder to absorb any moisture.

Next, they’ll apply the sugar paste to your skin against the direction of hair growth. Then, with a quick flick of the wrist, they’ll remove the paste in the direction of hair growth, taking the hair along with it. You might feel a slight tugging sensation, but it’s generally much less painful than waxing.

Your therapist will work their way through the area, applying and removing the paste until all the unwanted hair is gone. They’ll then cleanse the area again and apply a soothing lotion to calm and hydrate your skin.

After Your Session: Smooth Sailing

After your sugaring session, your skin might be a little pink or sensitive, but this usually subsides quickly. You can apply a cool compress to the area if needed.

To keep your skin happy and prevent ingrown hairs, avoid tight clothing, excessive sweating, and hot showers or baths for 24 hours after your treatment. And don’t forget to keep your skin hydrated by drinking plenty of water and using a gentle moisturiser.
